What 60fps really changes
Frame rate is about motion, not detail. It changes how movement reads and has no effect on how sharp a still frame looks.
- 60fps helps gaming, sport and fast camera movement
- It does nothing for interviews or slideshows
- Expect roughly double the bitrate for the same visual quality
What it actually does
Doubling the frames per second halves the gap between them, so motion looks smoother and fast pans stay legible instead of turning into a blur. Nothing about a single frozen frame improves.
Where it's worth the size
Gameplay, sport, action cameras and anything with rapid camera movement genuinely benefit. Most people can see the difference immediately in those.
Where it isn't
A talking head, a lecture, a slideshow or a static product shot gains nothing measurable. You'd be paying double the bytes for frames that are nearly identical.
The cost
Twice as many frames need roughly twice the bitrate to look equally good. If storage or data is tight, dropping to 30fps on the right content is the cheapest saving available.
